In celebration of the 250th anniversary of 1776, this segment captures the historic assembly of the world’s largest vegan cheesesteak and the crowning of Philly’s 2026 plant-based champion. Through a mix of “Forefather” humor and mouth-watering close-ups, we explore how the city’s most iconic sandwich is evolving for a new era of independence. It’s a five-minute feast of culture, comedy, and “whiz-tory” that proves you don’t need meat to have a revolutionary taste of Philadelphia.
This is another journalism adventure. Capturing moments on the fly is much different than scheduling interviews. I would prefer a mix of both. Working with Community Reporter Dr. Chinchila Jonesia, Robert Moules and Tom Coyle, we were able to capture the essence of the event. Working in a little humor to highlight America’s 250 anniversary celebration with an Philadelphia staple “the cheese steak” we took a survey about the veganism of the founding fathers.
We worked with the Sony FS7 for the second time and a new lens. I found that some of our shots were out of focus. I am still learning the ins and outs of this camera. We were privilege to work with Bob Moules who provided some excellent photography of the event. See below.
