This segment was introduced to us by Amanda Morrison from National History Day. We were privileged to be able shoot in the library at the historic Carpenter’s Hall in Philadelphia. The segment was a part the PhillyCAM Voices show which aired on Monday, December 2, 2024.
It was a pleasure to meet Naina Bhatia, a Junior at West Chester East High School, a passionate young leader making waves in Pennsylvania’s education system. As a State Board of Education student representative, she’s advocating for students’ rights, improving education, and inspiring the next generation. From community service to policy change, Naina’s dedication is truly inspiring.
This was a single person shoot and we experimented with a new camera cage and a monitor. The monitor was a needed asset because I have in the past shot out of focus or cut the heads of people. I then had to cover up my bad footage in the edit. Luckily I always shoot with 2 cameras (always good to have a backup). Unfortunately the monitor died during the shoot. Fortunately I shot in focus and didn’t cut any heads.
The other addition was shooting with LED lights. This worked very well. We used a key light and head light. It would have been better to have a third light in the background but I am pretty satisfied with the look.
We shot our interviews with a Canon Rebel with a prime 50mm lens and Canon XA10. Audio used was a lav mic. I edited using Adobe Premiere Pro. I used quite a few stock footage videos and pictures for b-roll to help tell the story. For voiceover we used an AI young girl’s voice. It seemed my fitting for the story and to the appeal of the audience that we would like to reach.
