Philadelphia’s “Restore the Truth” rally takes center stage as the community fights back against the removal of the slavery memorial at the President’s House. We caught up with civil rights attorney Michael Coard and rally attendee’s to discuss the dangerous irony of erasing the stories of the enslaved in the shadow of the Liberty Bell. This PhillyCAM Voices segment captures the urgent demand to keep the full, honest picture of American history alive for the next generation.
This was the first segment we attempted to capture at rally or a protest. This was truly a journalist quest. Shooting the first time on my very own Sony FS7 Camera. Using a 50mm prime Canon lens I was able to get fairly good interviews during this rally. The camera’s excellent sound and color flexibility really came into play when I open up the footage in the edit on Premiere.
I got some ground footage from my son Steven Millaway who joined me for the first time on a shoot. I also got footage b-roll from Tom Coyle and Donald Terry. Donald capture Micheal Coard’s speech at the rally. Shamele Jordon really came through with her interview skills. It was a fantastic team!
